Hey everyone,
I'm moving to Seoul next month for a one-year work assignment and plan to live around the Seongsu-dong area (or nearby neighborhoods along Line 2 / Suin-Bundang Line).
Since this will be my first time renting in Korea, I’d love some advice on the best ways to search for a clean, reliable place (studio/officetel or 1-bedroom apartment).
A few specific things I’m wondering about:
Apps & Platforms: Are Korean real estate apps like Zigbang (직방), Dabang (다방), or Peterpan (피터팬의 좋은방 구하기) beginner-friendly for foreign tenants, or should I stick to working directly with a local realtor (부동산)?
English-Friendly Real Estate Agencies: If anyone knows reputable realtors around Seongdong-gu (Seongsu, Ttukseom, Wangsimni, Jayang-dong) who have experience helping expats, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Neighborhood Recommendations: Seongsu itself is ideal, but I'm also open to nearby areas within a 15–20 minute commute (like Konkuk Univ. / Jayang, Wangsimni, or Ttukseom). Are there specific sub-areas you'd recommend that offer a good balance of safety, convenience, and reasonable rent/deposit?
Renting Process & Leases: Any key tips or red flags to watch out for regarding standard 1-year lease agreements, deposit (Jeonse/Wolse) setups, and building management fees (gwanlibi)?
Any tips, experiences, or recommendations would be a massive help. Thanks in advance!
